šŸ‘‹ Introduce yourself!

I’m not sure that ā€˜Digital Society’ and ā€˜The Developers Society’ are the same thing here @chris ?

Hi, I’m Emery.

I’ve met some CoTech people at Space4 and the Ethical Consumer conference.

I’m based in London and a member of a tech coop registered in the US.

Hi Chris,

Thank you!

I think that’s referencing The Developers Society, rather than Digital Society. Based on the welcome email from June 2025, I do believe we are workers.coop members, however I’ve yet to engage with it too much!

D’oh, so sorry

Of course you are right, the decision is recorded here:

Your co-op hasn’t been added to the website, would you like to be listed on it?

Hi Chris, yes please if not too much trouble!

@endre_digitalsociety if anyone in your co-op has the technical ability to follow the instructions here:

Then you can add yourself to the site (you will need to ask us to apply a patch file), if nobody in your co-op is able to take this on then someone else might be able to do it for you.

Greets everone, Happy New Year - I recently joined and tryig to figure out how to reply privately . I lived in London for seven years, during and after Uni, then moved to Kent. Did a Masters , then travelled worldwide teaching and working as a lecturer, then Edinburgh, then PhD, Then had a personality split and half of me became an engineer and the other half became an artist. As a visual artist, I am seeking to further discourse on peer curation, is anyone up for that? As a subject matter expert now senior with PhD and much experience I realise there is something wrong with the employment market. I am looking for tech coops to job to share the challenge of making a fair and equitable living with others. Look foward to exchanges

@Pgalaxy I’ve manually incremented your automatic forum status, can you now send PMs? Click a user icon and see if a ā€œMessageā€ button appears?

Employment market … absolutely yes! Happy to talk when you are free.

Hello everyone! My name is Justin and I am a software developer who specializes in mobile applications and video games.

Originally come from the US and since graduation I have been living and working in Sweden for 4 years now. Currently at a corporate consultancy job but I am hoping to eventually break away from it to start a new cooperative or to join a currently existing one somewhere in Europe. Hoping to generate a lot of ideas by getting to talk with you all and learning more about what software support your cooperatives might need.

Hi everyone. I’m Carla. I’m originally from Portugal, but I’ve been based in the Netherlands for the last 5 years. I’m a former tech worker with 5+ years of experience working for startups as a data analyst. After several years of working in high-pressure consulting environments, I decided I needed a change of pace and focus on redefining my relationship with work in a way that better translates my values and ethics. I want to learn more about the mechanics of a co-op, and I hope to start a new co-op or join a currently existing one. Excited that I found this community, and I’m looking forward to engaging in the discussion surrounding this movement!

Best,
Carla

Hi everyone! :waving_hand:

I’m Nicoleta (she/her), a software engineer and writer currently looking to align my professional life more closely with my values. I’ve been following the co-operative tech movement for a while and have finally decided it’s time to introduce myself to this wonderful community.

A bit about my background: I have about 2.5 years of experience in the ā€œtraditionalā€ tech world, mostly doing backend work. However, my heart is in the FOSS ecosystem. I’m a big believer in building tools that should exist but don’t, and doing it the right way: on focusing on the user experience, on humanity, and on creating things that are a joy to use. This led me to create Arcada - a browser-based, interactive floor planner (built with React and PixiJS). It’s recently hit 200+ stars on GitHub, which i find encouraging and very rewarding, so i think it’s a sign to keep going in this direction haha.

While my professional background is backend-heavy, I am a versatile engineer who loves crafting smooth, interactive experiences the most. I also have a passion for technical writing and am actually considering a pivot in that direction if the opportunity arises, or I’d like to try at least.

Generally speaking, I find a lot of joy in the challenge of breaking down complex technology into something intuitive and accessible for people to use, while maintaining a strong ethical focus.

What I’m looking for: I’m currently exploring part-time opportunities (or project-based collaboration) that would allow me to contribute to a co-op while maintaining my own FOSS projects. That said, I’m always happy to chat with anyone working on inspiring, mission-driven tech!

If your co-op is looking for a dev with a writing streak, or if you just want to chat about interactive web experiences and FOSS, I’d love to connect.

I’ve already reached out to a few cooperatives by email, but it was suggested to me to reach out here as well. I’m not in the UK though unfortunately, so looking for remote-available opportunities (or could relocate in certain parts of the EU as i am a citizen).

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Hi Nicoleta,

It might be worth talking with some of the members of Autonomic Co-operative.

They have one member who lives in Paris, which means that they have the EU residency qualification for tendering for the public sector contracts and EU contracts within the EU countries.

They’ll be able to tell you more about that side of things.

But this would be another thing that you can bring-to-the-table when joining a co-operative.

Hi all,

My name is Matt Tutt, I’m a freelance SEO consultant from the UK now living in Galicia, Spain

On the side I founded a grassroots activist group called No To Big Tech - as the name suggests, we are trying to figure out a way to collectively tackle and fight back against Big Tech. As part of the solution I believe co-operatives (as a business model/structure) are important, as is anyone operating in the FOSS space. I believe there are lots of cool solutions being built out there. I also believe (strongly) that the web is broken, it has been consumed by the corporations, and so the work is repairing the web (or starting again). Not sure which…

Everyone is welcome to come and get involved with No To Big Tech if they like (we are always looking for more contributors!) - EDIT - I can’t seem to link to the site, but ping me if you want to access it.

On the co-op side I have always considered, if I start a business, it would most likely be done as a co-op. One struggle I have is my location and the language barrier. There are useful resources in the UK but I’m yet to find the same here in Spain. Would be great to connect with others who may be based in Spain.

Looking forward to connecting with others here - thanks!

Matt

Hi all,

I’m Rob (they/them), a Lead Fullstack Software Developer based in Lewisham. I have a First Class MEng CompSci from Warwick, then spent about 5 years in various AI startups, and I currently work in the civil service.

Experienced with Typescript, React, Python, Golang, Java (Scala/Kotlin), Docker, Github… and can pick up most tech stacks quickly. Have built highly available, secure, robust and accessible frontends and services on cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP - would like to not use these for ethical reasons in the future!).

I’m also a trade union representative, taking on case work, representing colleagues in redundancy consultations, and moving motions around neurodiversity and AI safety.

Sadly I don’t have a portfolio or project to share as all my work to date has been proprietary, but looking to contribute to open-source and community-driven projects with what spare time I have. Also open to joining/starting a co-op, but probably from 2027 as 2026 is a very busy year for me.

Heard about this through looking to provide dev time for Salamander News. This is such a cool space, looking forward to connecting with like-minded people!

Best,
Rob
