I’m working on a project to design a community pension fund, which could be structured as a co-operative or as related to a co-operative, so first and foremost, we’re looking for groups who might be interested in being ‘pilot’ groups to discuss how something like this could work for them (including for groups of freelancers). If anyone is interested in this please do get in touch!
Second, we will need to think about tech platforms for a community pension fund so I’d also be interested to hear from anyone with experiencing building anything financial - please do also let me know.
Hello and its so nice to hear someone talk about pensions!
For me the big burning issue is simply that loads of activists and organisers (like me!) don’t have them at all - feels like a huge brewing crisis esp given the cost of living predicted to rise.
Do you need to make a new pension fund? For me I would just welcome some discussions about it and what our collective futures look like…
If it’s not too late, we would love to be involved in a discussion about this.
We’re currently on Pensionbee’s Climate Plan, which claims to be good for the climate by a UK pension provider. Looking at the fact sheet, it’s mostly invested into US tech companies, which is neither good for the climate, nor is it investing in our local communities (less than 2.5% into the UK). We have made various steps to stop being consumers of big US tech, however at the same time fund them through our pensions, which seems wrong. Having looked at NEST’s “ethical” pension scheme fact sheet, it has similar positions.
Optimally, I’d love a pension fund that invests locally, growing the wealth of communities we live in, with some thoughtful hedge in a wider global socially-responsible market.
