or “video chats or other traffic intensive applications” would it be better to consider peer-to-peer solutions? For example, I believe one in development called Matrix works like this, similar to how Bittorrent works.

I just came across PeerTube, it is a peer to peer federated video platform that uses bittorrent as the back end, the code is on GitHub: Would be instance for co-operatives to host videos on, perhaps using the tube.coop domain, be something that people would be interested in?
